Article published on 6/13/2011 1:36:01 AM in Education / Mathematics

The word "mathematics" comes from the Greek word μ?θημα meaning learning, study, and science. The concepts of mathematics have been around for centuries, it one of the oldest techniques for solving arguments and providing theories. Mathematics is used throughout the planet in many fields such as Science, Medicine, Engineering, Electronics programming, and many other fields especially in businesses. The earliest uses of mathematics were in trading, land measurement, painting and weaving patterns and the recording of time. This earliest evolution of maths gave the realization to prehistoric people that a collection of two objects such as a mango and another collection of two objects such as a pear had something in common. And this gave the start to the more advanced mathematics that we use today which begun advancing in 3000 BC, when the Babylonians and Egyptians began using algebra, arithmetic and geometry for taxation and other financial calculations, for building and construction, and for astronomy. A popular record ancient usage of mathematics was during the Mayan civilization where the Mayan numerals where introduced.

The mathematician Benjamin Peirce called mathematics "the science that draws necessary conclusions". David Hilbert described mathematics with the following paragraph: We are not speaking here of arbitrariness in any sense. Mathematics is not like a game whose tasks are determined by arbitrarily stipulated rules. Rather, it is a conceptual system possessing internal necessity that can only be so and by no means otherwise. Albert Einstein stated that "as far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality."

Mathematics is a universal human logic of understanding quantities or amounts; we use maths all the time and every hour in our daily activities especially when working with finance in much developed countries. Maths rules all field on the planet, whether it's Doctors, Architecture, Musicians, Accountants, Fasion, Engineers, Scientists we all use maths.
