Boof! There it is. The unmistakable sound
of the Barramundi fish jumping out of the
water, catching some air before it hits the water again. Yes, this is it. Nothing like Northern
territory fishing trips to shake off the stress and besides
where else does a man want to be but on
a Northern territory fishing trip?
The
water ripples, you look up into the clear blue sky and you spot a cloud drifting slowly overhead,
casting a cooling shadow on your cold beer.
Your fishing rod is still perchedon the tripod but you are a patient
man, and besides your net is still bulging with the day’s catch. You just need
one more for your collection. The legendary Barramundi.
You recast, and wait just like your fly
fishing charter’s guy told you to do (and of course just like you remember
from your favourite Brad Pitt movie
- Suddenly the float bobs, once, twice... you reach for the beer again, one
last sip before you strike. The fly fishing charter company didn’t need to coach you on the etiquette of
not wasting valuable beer. You
reel it in slightly and let it struggle a little. Then gently you reassert your strength and reel
in a little more. The play continues for
a 10 minutes, this is turning into an excellent Barramundi
fishing holiday but it still isn’t over
till the fat one is in the net. It jumps
in the air trying to shake off the hook, you strike just as it lands in the
water, easing, pulling and eventually throwing it into your net. Then you wake
up. It just a dream....or was it?
There is nothing better
for the soul than relaxing in nature, doing what man does best: hunting,
contemplating life and supping on some fine cold ones. And where best to do that but on a Northern
territory fishing trip with friends or on your own. Wherever you are
just close your eyes and take a little peep into the future and imagine a
little bit of the good life on a fly
fishing charter holiday.
Barramundi fishing
holidays are dreams waiting to happen.
All it needs is you, your fishing rod and a beer. Just don’t forget to go easy
on the Barramundi and save some for the rest of us.
