Happiness, a way of life
By- B. M. Kohli
Who does not want happiness. Happiness
is undying quest of life , the un quenchable thirst and unsatisfideable hunger of all humans . Happiness is that we all seek for. You work , you eat, you sleep or awake , you fight
or embrace any body only to be happy . You
like to earn but some times you loose
the desire to gain wealth for
happiness and joy . Some of us enjoy
in the act when
they
tease or damage some one
where as the others
get joy when help others since
every action we perform is never with out aim . The greatest fool or the wisest
one , may it be a saint never do any
work intentionally or unintentionally with
out any aim and in the end that may cause happiness for him.
Laughing of course depicts happiness but weeping
also relieve yourself from pain
and is an action directed to gain a relieved state of mind . In short, even
the evil doer derives pleasure, may be momentary,
from bringing misfortune to others. That is why he performs such actions. Whereas the saints and the similar thinking persons
perform actions of grace because
they derive the happiness in making others happy. The attainment
of
happiness is the
goal for all. But have you noted that all this
happiness is short lived and
period bound. When you achieve an
objective and obviously it is bound to be followed by the greed for
more . One who acquires rupees one lac, is engaged in finding ways to achieve another lac to become more happy and so on. Once a minister
traveling in a Rolls Royce developed a fault and had to abandon his car near a village . A poor fellow, passing by, stopped to have a look and thought “ what a pleasure it
would be to sit in the car once for a few
seconds to enjoy the luxurious
arrangement in side”. Coincidently
he was engaged as a chauffeur by the same minister to drive that very car . Now this villager became used to sit in
the car for which he had once longed to
sit for few seconds. He was really overjoyed on the first day . But with the passage of time, his job
became more demanding. His
initial joy gradually went off and he began to complaint his wife “ It is better to beg for
living than to take up the job of chauffeur. Your eating , sleeping and taking rest etc. is all on the mercy of your
master. Believe me it is a dog’s
life and I hate it”. What happened to his joy
he had imagined on the first day ? This happens with each and every human being . The joy is never ever existing, it looses its charm
either due to enhanced demands or for
some other reason. Similarly one who acquires happiness in scolding or downgrading
others also get to the peak some day and starts realizing what
he has been doing . This is a human nature. This sense does not prevail in
animals. Animals hound for his living but when achieve,
they fill their stomach and leave the rest with out caring for his security for the
next day
and remain happy. So you may have to
consider the formula “ Live only in the present and not in the
future. “ to be happy. Do your best today
and do not look for tomorrow by making your today miserable. Because you never know what will happen tomorrow. Do not
make your self miserable due to the faults of others, is another point to be taken care of to make your self happy. He is wealthier, he
is more beautiful or has not praised
your act of kindness or
reacted positively or negatively for any
deed should not make
a worrisome proposition for you.
Happiness/ Joy has no form but is felt
within and of course depends to some
extent upon the external conditions, but chiefly upon mental attitudes . In
order to be happy one should have good health, a well balanced
mind, a prosperous life
and above all wisdom or knowledge of god
to feel thankful for all which have become cause to your happiness. All
these are interrelated. The most
important of these is to keep your mind balanced in all circumstances. With
unbalanced mind, you cannot be prosperous and you cannot have good health as
well. There is limit to the worries in this world. The only thing is how you take and
tackle it. Every body cannot be happy all the time. Ups and down one have to see. All these have to be
seen as the gifts of God .
